Streetteam Projects (8)

These are the first flyers we ever made way back in early 1998 right after the release of the F&F-EpicEscape cd. They're quite simple and raw, we based our work on the original flyers we got directly from the band but we felt we had to add the name of the band in the classic Sui font to make it more notable as well as some additional info like band contact etc…Looking at them now we feel they're carrying too many infos but that was our main goal when doing it, let everybody know that ST were back.

In the bottom part of the flyers you can read what was supposed to be the title of the ST come back cd, it was then changed into Freedumb. These flyers were part of a massive distribution, we handed out like 3.000 flyers in a whole afternoon during a stop here in Milan of the Warped Tour.

The EU Street Team wasn't up yet and these flyers were distributed just locally in Milan and some other clubs in other Italian cities.

It was late October and Mike was going to spend a couple of months in Australia and got a great chance to set up a spoken word show there. The show was supposed to introduce the new release Return To Venice as well as telling stories around and behind ST.

Mike checked in just a couple of days before leaving as the promoter was asking for a flyer/poster to promote the show but he didn't really had anything in his hands so decided to ask us to have it done as soon as possible. With such a short advice we didn't really had time to work on a new flyer, no time to throw down and discuss anything new, it would have taken too much time.

So after a brief talking we decided to rework the promo flyer used during the Resistance Tour and came up with this new one. Mike was satisfied with the result and the promoter too, I got a couple of emails telling me that the poster was printed and pasted all over the area.

Obviously the poster was just released in Australia so it's not really a 'Street Team' work but we wanted to have it posted here anyway…waiting for the new promo to be started…stay tuned!

Resistance Tour 2003

As happened the previous year, 2003 doesn't see any new release and the band doesn't plan any tour for the summer…but a big announcement is soon posted on the official webpage, ST are invited to headline the winter infamous Resistance Tour with an awesome lineup including bands like Madball, Ignite, Sworn Enemies, Backfire and many more. Even if the tour is planned in a very cold November with 18 shows in 18 days a lot of excitement surrounds everybody, especially the Italian fans as after 10 years the band has a booked show in Milan-Italy.

The band is also celebrating their 20 years around so we started working on a new promo flyer and we came out with what we think is our best work ever. First idea was to have an old school ST skull near a new school one above a blank spot to be filled with info on the local shows. We didn't wanted to have all the tour dates in it again as it's quite hard to fit everything and the artwork looses quality. The result wasn't as expected so we had to change the old school skull with the one used on the 'F&F1' cover…We reworked it including an OG sign and the result was killer! Mike was very satisfied with the design of the two skulls and he wanted to print a tour shirt that has been sold on every show of the tour.

The main work was done but it took us even more time to find a right intro for the flyer and after many 'crazy' attempts the 'Cycos Are Back' slogan was selected and the flyer sent out again all over Europe. This time we were forced to have the flyer in black and white as that's how the left skull was printed on the 'F&F1' cover anyway a colored version was done as well but has not been sent out. The promo packs included also a new version of the merch flyers as the guys couldn't provide us anymore the DT merch after giving the distribution to Dark Horse dist.

This tour saw also a lot of local promo in Italy, we printed some promo stickers for the show (designed from some great friends of the Italian ST crew), made contact between magazines and the band, lot of articles have been released along with a compilation cd including one ST song. A meet&greet with the band was also planned in a music shop in Milan and a dedicated flyer was realized, but had to be cancelled as the tourbus broke the previous day and the band arrived right in time just to play the show. The great response on this promo as well as the great artwork of the new flyer left us completely satisfied, the guys got a chance to make the best tour ever since their come back and beside Mike's bad accident to his back it was a killer experience…Till the next time!

As the 'Friends & Family 2' is the last cd to date, the latest promo have been launched to support the ST tours in Europe. Summer 2002 saw the guys back for another tour in big festivals and small clubs and our first idea was to have a black and white flyer filled with scratched tour pics and tour dates, something like the first ST flyers back in the 80s.

That really didn't worked and was replaced by the second idea of placing the tour pics in a film. Pics have been selected from some shows of the tours ST did since their reunion (thanx to all the people we stole pics for this flyer). As this was also the first tour with the new lineup we wanted to place the band promo shot as the first one in the film to present the new guys.

We tried to keep the flyer as our first idea, in black and white but it didn't worked, it really seemed too poor. So we just placed a light colored background and a strong red for the ST name to make it standing above the rest. The final colored version is working well but we noticed that black and white copies lost some impact, that's why we suggested in our promo packs to have it copied in full color.

…And the new year brought another new cd. In 2001 the 'Friends & Family 2' compilation is released and supported by another ST tour during the summer.
Once again we had a preview of the artwork of the cd some time before it was released so we got time to work on a new flyer as well as setting up another promo through Europe. At this time all the contacts with the streeteamers are taken through the mailing list and for the first time we're all alone handling all the promo activities as Peter and Ruben left to concentrate only on the work for the official ST webpage.

The flyer promoting the new compilation is quite simple we just felt to have an easy artwork as we had to fill the flyer with all the bands appearing in the cd. As the main image, we selected the classic old ST skull as we didn't really felt comfortable with the cover of the new cd…Just our choice but we think it worked out better! We also felt it was time to do a poster promoting the tour as well and the artwork used on the back of the cd gave us a cool idea…ST was touring again in Europe and we saw it like a bus 'LoadOfFreaks' making stops all over the country. It didn't really worked out in the beginning but we stayed on that idea till it was done and in the end we think we got a good one.

Even if filled with all the tourdates and few other info on the newest ST releases it doesn't loose its visual impact. Just few days before the tour Mike got in touch and gave us the possibility to handle and sell the ST and DT merch to the street team members as well as shops all over EU so we just got a day to work out a small flyer and press it for the tour, that's really an easy one but made things moving and a lot of you guys jut got a great chance to have some cool ST merch!

This flyer has always been at the merch boot starting with this European tour.
All the promo packs sent for this promo included also a flyer released by the European record label that distributed the new compilation.

The band was keeping an incredible rhythm and year 2000 saw the release of the new IG cd 'Borracho', the new ST 'Free Your Soul And Save My Mind' cd as well as a new summer tour in EU combining headlining shows in clubs with classic European summer festivals. This will be a classic for the band in the next years: summer will see ST coming down to Europe. The Street Team is consolidated now and a huge work through the mailing list keeps it alive even when there's nothing to promote. A new massive promo started in May 2000, we got a new flyer to promote the release of 'Free Your Soul…' while we kept the original flyer from the European record label for the new IG 'Borracho'. This was a huge step for us, for both the promo and the flyer.

The promo is left in our own hands no call up will be posted on the official webpage, the EU mailing list is so huge as the first promo attracted many people and the word is spreading all over. This is our first flyer in full color, it comes with elements from the new ST cd cover and we think that the lookout is killer. Colors and shades are balanced so that a black and white copy can work as well and the flyer is filled with just few info due to the huge artwork on the background. Even if the liner notes seem to be lost in the background, the growth of the quality of all the flyer is unquestioned and left the band fully satisfied.

We had an incredible amount of flyers printed for the tour and we finally followed some shows around EU with the band. The promo was massive especially in the big festivals with Mike hangin' out after the shows to sign flyers for the fans….You for sure have one signed at home!

Just a last note, the IG cd was released in EU with some bonus tracks from different bands like CycoMiko, Creeper etc under the title 'Mas Borracho'. Just a gift from the band for the EU fans who saw the EU tour cancelled the previous year due to Mike pneumonia…The pneumonia E.P.

In late 1998 we released our second flyer promoting the next release of the Six The Hard Way E.P. that was released in early 1999. During the distribution of our first flyers we kept in touch with Mike via email, the band was very supportive and thankful for what we were doing so we were pushed to continue our promo and released this flyer. Like the previous one this was quite simple and raw but we were satisfied with it.

The fact of having a small flyer repeated three times on one sheet made it simple to press and distribute. We feel it could have fitted with the earliest ST flyers, perhaps we should have used the classic ST font of the first record but we felt that the last font used before the ST break up was more 'artistic'. We're just sorry we got the wrong Postal code on it and turned 90294 into 90214! Again the EU Street Team wasn't up but was shortly to come.

Here's were it all started. The band was finally releasing their first full length after their reunion and wanted to have it promoted by the fans worldwide so a 'call at arms' was posted on the official ST webpage. Mike and the band wanted us to manage the promo in Europe while they were dealing with the US one personally. I can remember Mike M and Mike C calling on the phone the fans who responded at the call on the website and sending out promo packs all over US. ST were back in their own way.

We got a preview of the cover some time before the release of the new cd and got ready a two sided flyer to promote the release. Mike introduced us to our friends Peter and Ruben from Belgium, provided us with SUICIDAL and DOGTOWN SKATES merch catalogs and the promo started. He passed us all the contacts he got from Europe and we were sharing them with the Belgians who were covering the central/northern part of Europe while we were covering the central/southern part. That was a massive one, we put a lot of effort in it, so many promo packs were shipped and thinking about it nowadays it really makes us proud of it.

A first EU mailing list was created with the contacts Mike gave us and I started keeping all those guys posted with info and news on the band…We even didn't knew it but the four of us gave birth at the first ever ST European street team.
Speaking about the flyer itself, it shows a growth compared to the previous one with some more complex artwork based on our own project. This flyer along with some copies of the official one released in US was sent all over Europe and you probably own one at your homeplace!

On the back of the flyer we got the promo of the first huge tour after ST comeback as well. The band was invited to play the 99 Warped Tour in US and Europe, unfortunately during the last US shows Mike got a bad pneumonia that forced the band to cancel the EU tour, but that didn't stopped us to travel in few cities and meet some of our good streetteamers as well as our pals Peter and Ruben. The meeting with the band was just postponed to the next year.
